Scenario #8

If abuse were suspected would a teacher report it and then wait for something more serious to happen? Then, if the abuse is being witnessed on school grounds, as a teacher, where is the line in regards to me approaching the situation and trying to make it stop? Would I lose my job if I got physically involved? Would I be wrong if I intervened at all?

Personally, I think if you suspect abuse you should report it right away.
You can always stay anonomyous until they find out if something is going on or not.

There are many signs for when a student is being abused and by law it is required that a teacher report any suspicious actions. If the abuse were actually witnessed on school grounds the person should be kept and the police called. These are the actions the I was told are supposed to be taken by law. Also setting up a time for the student to speak with the school counselor might help.

If you think a student may be being abused, talk to the students other teachers and to the student, then use your best judgement.

If a student is being abused in any way it is your responsibility to take action. Talk to the student, tell an administrator, but most importantly get the student some help.
