Each of these scenarios was created by a pre-service teacher in Block 1 of EDU 221, Spring 2007. Most are based on actual experiences in their practicum teaching experiences this semester. Each student is required to pick 4 to which they can offer a solution. Their solution is to be added as a comment to that scenario posting. Five (5) is the maximum number of comments allowed on any scenario.

Give them time to talk and vent at the start of class, sort of like what we did with beth. Giving them some time to themselves helps, than maybe find a way to lead it into the discussion.
Let them know that talking out of turn is a respect issue and enforce your policy on respect. Also, be consistent with how you dicipline when students continually break rules.
I would chat with the student before class and just be like, hey, can you try hard for me today to just stay focused and listen and be respectful. Most likely I would ask the student to sit in an area of the room where s/he would not be near anyone who could prompt extra chatter with during class. I'm all about making eye contact with students to let them know to behave, so if the student is being disruptive or anything throughout class, i'd just make eye contact and hopefully they'd get the clue!
I think that if classroom expectations are established and enforced well at the beginning of the year or semester that these situations will be easier to handle. Also, if your class has helped establish the rules for these situations the students will help to enforce the rules.
